Working with you on safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of children, young people, their families and communities

About Jenny

Whether you are an established business, a start-up, a charity, an education provider or a public or private service agency impacting children, I have expertise in creating and supporting safeguarding children policies and procedures, in scrutinising ongoing activity to safeguard children and in working on specific targeted research, evaluation and service activity.

Six steps to safeguarding

In my work I have developed The Six Steps framework to use with individual or agency providers of services to children to assess how safeguarding works in practice. Together, we could asses your individual or agency service or partnership considering each other six steps.

Each of the six steps has breakdown components that we can look at together and assess progress. It is not a check list against which to measure and score. It is a working tool for us to consider together both the strengths and challenges in supporting you, your staff, your partners and your clients/users to safeguard children.

The six steps can also be used to assess safeguarding adult processes and procedures.

The Association of Safeguarding Partners has adapted, trailed and used the six steps framework to create an evidence based approach to scrutinising safeguarding children partnerships.

This includes looking at:

Safeguarding

  • Leadership and governance: engagement with safeguarding responsibilities and activities
  • Collaboration: ensuring safeguarding with partners and /or providers
  • Engagement: with service users and clients
  • Data management and information sharing
  • Integrating Learning from Inquiries, Reviews, Research
  • Workforce development and Continuous Improvement

Listening loops and consent to sexual activity

My work with fantastic colleagues and young people at the SYLRC ( formerly the international centre researching cse, violence and trafficking) informed the development of two tools I can use with colleagues to explore how we listen to young people and how we understand consent to sexual activity
